Don't look a gift pizza in the mouth....
I was heading for the kitchen to start making dinner when the doorbell ring. Alex looked at me and said, "Are we expecting company?" I think he was suspicious that I'd invited my sister over without telling him like the other week. I said, "No!" and walked downstairs, curious about who was at the door.
I opened the door and there stood a pizza delivery guy. He smiled and started to take a pizza out of the large red insulated bag that he was holding. "But we didn't order any pizza!" I said. "But it's already paid for!" he said. Moral dilemma. Do I claim the pizza as my own? Pizza is good. No dishes to clean. Can't do that. He looked confused, so I went on, "Well, what's the address?" He looked at his slip of paper. "2007... Oh, this might be another address..." He looked embarrassed as he put the pizza back in his bag. I told him "Good Luck" as I shut the door.
I was back upstairs for about 15 minutes, gathering my materials to make dinner and slightly regretting not claiming the pizza when the doorbell rang again. I sent Alex down this time. The Pizza guy told Alex that he called his boss who called the number and they verified the address. Since the pizza was already paid for, his boss told him to just give us the pizza. The pizza guy and his boss apparently thought that someone had ordered us a small pizza and a salad. Alex took the pizza, though he knew that we likely didn't have a mysterious pizza benefactor.
So we had pizza for dinner. Half sausage, half cheese - which is just the way we would have ordered it. And salad - really, really good salad with fresh feta cheese on top. Alex joked around that perhaps the pizza was poisoned and it was all an elaborate plot to kill us. We discovered, though, that we were not the lucky recipients of free pizza - it was all just a mistake by the pizza guy. When we shut the pizza box to clean up, we noticed that on the top of the box itself was Central Parkway. It's funny how Eastern and Central don't sound or look alike. I'm not sure how the pizza guys got it so wrong - and I hope the folks at 2007 Central Parkway ended up getting compensated. But we sure did enjoy their pizza!
