On Why You BOTH Should Have Cellphones in MegaBookStores...
We went to Barnes & Nobles to hang out for a bit after dinner and, first of all, can I just say that if you both don't have cellphones with you when you enter the store and you plan to split up in there, you better make a plan for finding each other. I swear, I seriously spent 45 minutes hunting around that store trying to find The Boy. I actually went outside to the car to look for him, I was so desperate. I even went to the payphone in the back to call his cell, only to find out that a local call costs 50 cents nowadays (holy moly!) and I could only find a single quarter in my wallet...
I was SO desperate, that I considered just wondering around shouting his name, or causing a ruckus - knocking down tables of books or something so that everyone in the store, including Alex, would come running.
I even went and started looking at the Wedding magazines, figuring that it would be my luck that I'd get "caught" by him while I was looking at Wedding dresses... but I abandoned that after a few minutes because I felt like some other patron would walk by and notice that I was looking at Wedding magazines without yet having an engagement ring and they'd expose me... They'd point and yell, "This girl's a desperate poser!!!" So I abandoned that idea.
Just as I was about to just give up and curl up in a ball on the floor, I walked past an aisle and saw out of the corner of my eye that Alex was sitting at a table, reading. ARGH! I'd apparently missed that aisle completely during my laps around the store searching for him. D'oh! I told him of my desperate search for him and he said that he'd been sitting there looking at pictures of Navy boats the whole time (boys are SO boring).
When we got in the car, I suggested that we formulate a plan for the next time we go to Barnes & Nobles and one of us doesn't bring a cellphone. I thought that we could pick a spot to go to when we're ready to leave, and alert the other of our intentions to go by making a loud, "Caw! Caw!" sound, like a crow. After the audio signal is given, we'll meet at the front doors. I don't think he liked my idea much. He rolled his eyes and suggested that I just bring my phone along next time. ;)
