I'm a superstar. (Geeky post ahead...)

So today at work somehow we got on the topic of google-ing your own name. Everyone pretty much shared stories of how when they Google their names they come up with hits referring to other people. Chris mentioned that he has the exact same name as some guy in some band. Sam said that her name was a character's name in some Lifetime Movie. I said that if you were to Google my name, you'd only come up with hits about my cousin, Heather's, college volleyball team (she's got the same last name as I do and there was a girl on her team with the same first name as mine...). Anyway, so Sam punched my name into Google and I was shocked to see that the first couple of links actually referred to me. Rock! :)

Anyway, speaking of Google, if you're cool, you'll download the Google Desktop Beta. It's only the most awesome thing ever! ;) Actually, it's pretty nifty. You can set it up to be docked as a sidebar and it will show your recent emails, some news headlines, recent clips from Blogs you frequent, links to your frequently visited web pages and frequently used files on your computers, a list of "what's hot on the internet", stock quotes, and the weather. It also has a handy-dandy little scratch pad built in that automatically saves your notes and it will show a tiny slideshow of the pictures on your computer (that you specify to be shown). It's fun stuff, good times. Here's a screenshot, for your viewing pleasure:

You can see from my webclips that I've been visiting the Attack of the Show website kind of a lot lately. I can't help it. I just love that geeky show. Even if their current guest host, Anthony Carboni, says that blogging is fungus. I mean, it is. I don't pretend to think that this site is interesting to anyone else. I just enjoy doing it, and that's reason enough for me.

Anyway, Anthony did mention a kind of cool flash-based photo sharing site, Shutterbook. I'm giving it a go. I uploaded the crappy pictures that I took of mostly a duck (random, I know...) over the 4th of July weekend (which Alex and I spent up at his parents' cabin on Indian Lake). I, very creatively, named the album "new album" and I haven't added any comments or anything, but check out the album. I enjoy the uploader (drag and drop, baby) and the fact that anyone can visit my pics without having to sign up for anything - oh, and also that it's FREE. It's got a slideshow and commenting capabilities and - of course - a blog. Oh, and the coolest thing ever: you can upload an mp3 to be associated with an album slideshow. Awesome. Now viewing slideshows of pictures is like watching a cheesey 80s movie montage. I love it! :) I'll likely end up using it to host my photos.

Fun stuff, good times.
