A Home of Our Own...

So we got the keys to our new place on Tuesday!! The power and gas got turned on today and we should have a futon by tomorrow - ordered one from "the futon store" at the mall Tuesday night. SO... hopefully we'll be staying in our new place starting tomorrow night - yay!!!

I got a new camera Monday night - an open box item at Circuit City. It's a Sony Cybershot and it's awesome and I got it hella cheap - yay!! ;)

Anyway, so I took the new camera to the apartment on Wednesday (the first day it was officially ours) and took some pictures... I've posted them here. The apartment is SO cute and I'm really excited for moving in!!! :)

The apartment is on Winnie St, so my new favorite thing is telling people my address... "Winnie, like Winnie the Pooh". Alex cringes every time I say it... He thinks Glenwood was a much cooler street name. I am going to miss our apartment at Glenwood St. The views outside the windows were a little nicer... There were so many trees and bushes and other lovely types of foliage. And it was very nice to have a back door to the apartment. Our new apartment is on the second floor of our new building and the views aren't quite as nice, though they aren't bad... And there's only one entrance to the apartment - something that probably never would have bothered me before the fire, but now... Now it's just a little troublesome to think that in the event of - God forbid - another apartment fire, I'd only have one way out of the apartment. But let's all cross our fingers and pray that we never have to go through a fire again. Right? Right.

So I drew a little diagram of the apartment in Excel... If you're so inclined to view a floor plan, you can download it here. There are two large bedrooms (with an enclosed porch off of the master bedroom), a small bedroom (which is just screaming to be an office - there's even pegboard already on the walls), a nice sized living room, a bathroom just about the same as our old one, and a kitchen and dining room. All very cute. We're still deciding on paint colors and awaiting the insurance check before we can fill it with furniture, but I'm hoping that we'll have painting done and most furniture in by my birthday - which is just about a month away!

Anyway, I guess that's all the news for now... Big changes occurring all the time. It's almost exhausting to keep up with everything - but kind of exhilarating at the same time! :)

ARGH

Um, Ok, I HATE Internet Explorer!!!!!

I just spent a half an hour typing a new post and it f-ing navigated away from the page - which I did NOT ask it to do - and I lost the whole thing!!

Ok. In summary:

Finally had adjuster out. He seemed horrified at state of place and agreed was total loss. Will be writing report to our adjuster indicating same and advising payout way above policy limit. My inventory-ing came up with a total of over $23k after two LONG days of cataloging everything in the apt on microcassette tapes and then entering into software which gave fair market value. SHOULD be getting the max of the policy - $10k - hopefully soon (and not in 2 weeks as estimated by the adjuster).

Pulled out anything from charred apt that seemed salvageable. Not much. Pots, pans, bakeware, glass dishes. Saved some pictures from photo albums. Furniture we have left: small glass table, two wood folding chairs, wood folding bookcase from porch. All saturated with smoke smell, unsure if will ever be normal smelling.

New apt! Hella cute. Moving in this week. Yay! But, no stuff to put in it yet. :(

New computer!!!! Bought at Best Buy today. Is awesome. Was disconnected feeling this week without computer. Love this laptop. Am typing from Starbucks now. Will be connecting from hotspots until have wireless network up and running at new apt - unsure when that will be yet.

New job!!! Seems hella cool. Annoyed that I was so distracted with everything during my first week there. Am glad that fire stuff is seemingly winding down so that I can concentrate on learning the new job.

Ok. Starbuck's is closing. More later.
