Fire Pictures

We went back in the charred apartment today. Alex took a lot of pics. I walked through the bedroom, kitchen, and dining room speaking into a tape recorder, listing all the things in the apartment. Spent most of this evening listing all the items into a database program that people usually use to find out what the fair market value for a donated item is for their taxes. Works pretty great for the purpose of submitting an insurance claim after your place burns down too. I uploaded the fire pics to my server and threw together a little HTML file so they're viewable. So, if you want to see some scary/sad pictures of a burned/trashed apartment that used to be my home (sigh), take a look.

:(

So my apartment burned down on Sunday.

I'm so... despondent right now.

We were allowed in the apartment today. It was the scariest thing I've ever seen. It was like my home had a horror movie makeover. Black everywhere. Paint bubbled. Glass all over the place. No floor in the computer room.

I have renter's insurane, but that process is far from settled and it's SO frustrating waiting...

I can't really write much right now. I'm totally exhausted. I start my new job tomorrow... I'm hoping that will be a welcome distraction from the devestation and not a further stressor.

View the Capital News 9 video. At about 57 seconds in, you can see smoke pouring out the window of my living room (the windows at the bottom left corner of the building).

On a brighter note, we did get another apartment today. We'll move in on the 15th. It's a couple blocks from our old apartment... same neighborhood. Cute building. Three bedrooms (two larger ones and a smaller one) and off street parking for 2 cars (one is a garage space!) all for only $100 more a month than we were paying before.

OK. Bed now. More later.
