Getting Excited!

So I'm getting excited for the upcoming St Patrick's Day events! Tonight is the HOTD and McKrell's show at Revolution Hall, and tomorrow is Parade Day in Albany. So, that means I'll be nicely drunk tonight and probably not so nicely drunk tomorrow. ;) But a good time should be had by all and I'm hella excited!! :)

I also had a good time last year.

I had a good time the year before, too.

On Why I Love March...

The month began awesomely with the announcement at work that we'd be getting our underwriting bonus and that it wasn't going to be as small as everyone feared. So I was able to put a nice chunk of money into savings for Disney next year, and Alex matched the amount using part of his tax refund. March is awesome.

The month continued to be awesome with the Glengarry Bhoys performing "locally" the first Friday of this month. So I got to see one of my favorite bands that doesn't perform in the area all that often. March is awesome.

This Friday (the second Friday of March), Hair of the Dog is performing at Revolution Hall with the McKrells. It looks like it's going to be an awesome show and I can't wait! AND it sounds like a bunch of people are going to be going that don't usually go to every HOTD show like I sort of kind of do sometimes. So it should be a good time. March is awesome.

This Saturday is "Parade Day" in Albany. There's a St. Paddy's Day parade that I'll be attending with Alex and it sounds like a large group of people. We've apparently been invited to a couple of parties that day afterwards, so it seems like Saturday is guaranteed to be a good (drunk) day. It'll probably be freezing, but as long as I keep a good buzz on, that shouldn't matter too much. ;) March is awesome.

Next Thursday is St. Patrick's day and Seven Nations is performing at Revolution Hall. Awesome. They're out of Florida, so they only really get up to this area once or twice a year. So I'm very excited to see the concert. They're awesome! And most of the guys in the band are kind of hot. ;) It sounds like, again, there'll be a nice sized group going to this concert, so it also should be a good time. Oh, yeah, and I'm taking the next day off from work, so I'll have a three day weekend. March is awesome.

The Friday following St Patrick's day weekend (the 25th), Enter the Haggis is playing at the Parting Glass. SO exciting! They are also an awesome Celtic rock band that is not local (like the Glengarry Bhoys, they're from Canada), so they don't play around here all that often (twice a year if we're lucky). We're definitely going to that concert, and I can't wait! March is awesome.

So yeah. March rules. I'm getting to see all of my favorite Celtic-flavored bands in one month. There'll be lots of Guinness consumption. A good time should be had by all. March is awesome.

(I can't believe this is only post number 807. I mean, I feel like there should be thousands of posts... huh.)
Friday night Alex and I met Steve in Clifton Park and then headed up to Gloversville to see The Glengarry Bhoys at the Glove theater. Now, if you've read this blog before, you know my opinion on Gloversville. So, needless to say, I was not that excited about trekking out there for a show, but it was The Glengarry Bhoys and I do love them so very much and they aren't going to be back playing in this area for a while, so it didn't actually take too much convincing to get me to go. So we went. I guess the concert was a fundraiser to raise money to save the theater that it was held in. The theater is apparently some old movie theater that fell completely into disrepair. The outside of it looked normal... but inside, the walls looked like the Haunted Mansion. They were covered in fabric that was probably rich and bright and lovely back in the day, but nowadays it looks like it's rotting. The upstairs was closed off (probably would fall down if you went up there) and there were no theater chairs in the auditorium, instead there were rows of old fabric covered ballroom chairs intermingled with metal folding chairs. They had to run an extension cord to power the soundboard... But the ceiling was lovely. Obviously recently restored and the only part of the theater that wasn't scary. When we got there the show was just about to begin and we walked into the theater to find that all the seats were completely filled with people sitting in them. Old people. Some young people. Some kids. But they all just sat there... and sat during the entire show. Blasphemy. I mean, how can you just sit in your seat when there's a band up on stage playing the most infectious, toe-tapping, head-bopping, makes-you-want-to-bounce-around music? Geez. And then the old folks would periodically turn around and stare at us if we talked during a song. I mean, come on. We were standing all the way at the back of the theater, drinking our beers and singing along, chatting, and dancing. This is normal Glengarry concert behavior. Sitting in a chair staring straight ahead at the band while they play is not. Whatever. Gloversville people are strange. Anyway. I had a good time at the concert. The Glengarry Bhoys never cease to please. I guess it would have had to be a less than normal show, though, because it was in Gloversville.
