Reprise

Just one more thought before I leave the computer for the night...

Isn't it just lovely when someone goes out of their way to give you a complement? It's something that's so easy to do, but just isn't often done.

I think we should all resolve to say something nice to at least 3 people every day.

Oh, and this is completely random, but I'm so randomly excited for St Patrick's day... It's only 71 days away! (Random, I know.) Might go to see Hair of the Dog at Eammon's on Friday (most likely won't actually go to see them until the 21st at Revolution Hall - which is just such a nice venue)... Definitely going to see the Glengarry Bhoys at the Albany AOH hall next Friday!

IT'S A NEW YEAR...

... and of course I'm all inspired to start being a "good girl" again.

I've gained almost 20 pounds since September. EW.

I'm going back to Weight Watchers starting tomorrow. Will be going to the 7pm meeting. Should be able to get there every Thursday, no excuses. This time, Alex will be going to the meetings with me. I think that going together will be good for us... We'll be in it together so there'll be no more going to a restaurant where not much on the menu is edible on the WW plan and watching the other person eat lots of good stuff while you just have a salad.

I'm excited. I've been waiting all week for Thursday so I can officially re-start. I expect that I'll be as successful as I was before on the plan... I just need to get back into that "being good" frame of mind.

And I've got another good goal for this year: going to be in Beck's wedding in October and I'd like to be at my goal by then. Which is totally doable.

So wish me luck!

Happy New Year!

So we had a New Year's party and I think it was a success. Alex and I had a good time, and I'm pretty sure that our guests did as well.

I had tons of food... I made Swedish Meatballs (with a lot of help from Alex), artichoke tarts (they were a WW recipe and hella easy... and everyone seemed to enjoy them), Parmesan artichoke dip in my mini crock pot, bumps on a log (celery with peanut butter and raisins), and then there were the obligatory cheese and crackers and chips and chex mix and crudites and dip. And we had pretty much any kind of alcohol you could ask for.

So it was a good time. :) After the party (around 10:30/11) we went downtown to the Big House for the actual dropping of the ball (Carrie says in Scotland they [obviously] don't "watch the ball drop" they "take in the bells") and then we headed home about an hour and half later. It was a very nice New Years, but I think that next year, we'll just have the party continue on at the apartment instead of tryin to go out. We were having such a good time at the apartment... and the Big House charged a $20 cover and I sort of felt a little old there... Sigh. I'm old. 25 is ancient. ;)

We finally got cable and Road Runner yesterday. I set up the wireless network in the apartment and everything went smoothly and within a half an hour Alex was finally able to play with the Xbox Live that I bought him for Christmas. Unfortunately, for reasons I'm not sure of, less than an hour later the freaking thing wasn't working. I couldn't get it to work last night... well, I mean, I could have, but I just got tired and frustrated and went to bed. So I fixed it tonight... The router needed to be repositioned and the latest driver for my PC's wireless card needed to be downloaded. Actually an easy enough fix. Keep your fingers crossed that installing the Lingo for the phone works just as easily... last time it was a bitch of an install and wouldn't allow us to connect to the internet... had to spend about an hour on the phone with Tech Support. I really don't want to have to go through that again so I'm kind of dragging my feet on installing it...

But yeah. The apartment is coming together really well. We bought a new bookcase for the little bedroom/office and that's been set up and filled. My old bed (the top half of a bunkbed) is set up in there and I've made it up with a featherbed and some new sheets and a quilt. Looks incredibly cute and inviting. There's still our bedroom that needs to be finished... lots of organizing to do in there. And I ordered a pot rack from Target.com (one that was on my wish list) and that should be here sometime next week and then we'll be able to finish organizing the kitchen. Oh, and we found a dining room table at Oak Express... it's very cool: it's rectangular with a butterfly leaf that folds out and makes it square. You could seat 8 at the table when it's fully out. Awesome. It's pretty too: a dark wood color called "Espresso".

What else is new... Oh, got an email from a lovely gentlemen named Ian from Reading in the UK who told me that he read my blog - the first he'd ever read - and that he just wanted to tell me that I'm not fat, that, in fact I'm "absolutely gorgeous". Ian: I'm blushing. Thank you very much for that. :) Something about those men from the UK... I guess I'd have a lot of luck in that department if I moved over there. But I think I'm pretty lucky with my guy here so I'll stay put (sorry Carrie!).

On a related note, I am going back to Weight Watchers tomorrow... I do agree with Ian, I am gorgeous ;) but I also do think there's room for improvement. But I'll be chronicling those adventures over at Metamorphosis.

Oh! And I've decided to take a creative writing class. My Pa seems to think that I'm a talented writer and could possibly make a living out of it. I think that his judgment might be a bit skewed by the fact that I'm his daughter, but I can't deny that the thought of being a writer of some sort has been in the back of my mind since... well, I guess forever. I used to think like I was writing a story... For instance, if I went into the kitchen and got a glass of milk, my inner monologue would seriously be something like, "She walked downstairs and into the kitchen, flicked on the light and turned to the cabinet on the left and got a blue plastic cup out of it. As she walked towards the fridge, she noticed that the rim of the cup appeared to be peeling... almost as if someone had chewed at it. She set the cup down on the counter and opened up the fridge. She groaned a little as she pulled the almost full gallon of milk off of its shelf and turned back towards the counter and shut the door of the fridge in one smooth motion." Ok, I didn't have to write so much, I think you got the point with the first sentence, but I started to get carried away. Anyway, you get the idea. But the point is that writing is something I enjoy and wish I was better at, so the class sounds like fun. It starts at the end of February and I'm pretty excited about taking it...

I'm rambling. And I've got a lot more I want to get done tonight. So... that's all for now.

(I was never very good at conclusions...)
