Ooooooohhhh....

 blog it
Evernote seems like it will solve some of my organization and syncing issues between home and the office - and it seems wicked cool! I want to try this out so badly! I can have a desktop client installed on my iMac at home, my laptop at work, and access the web portal via my iPhone. Perfect! I just love the idea of a constantly available digital notebook as a repository of images, thoughts, ideas, etc. I registered for the Beta but who knows if I'll ever get an invite. (So, if anyone Googled Evernote or somehow got to my wee little corner of cyberspace and happens to already have an Evernote account and happens to also have an invitation left, please feel free to send one my way - Hi.There.Ali AT aliwolly.com. )

After 2am and I'm still awake...

Thank God it's the weekend. I can never sleep when Alex isn't here. :(

I'm such a sap.

Alex is out on a case tonight - actually, his 4th case since Wednesday night, which means he's been away working more than he's been home lately - so I'm entertaining myself. It was absolutely gorgeous out today, so I went for a few walks around the area, which was nice. Got to catch up on my podcasts. ;) I went to Target a little earlier and for the past few hours I've been playing with a bunch of freeware that I found for my iMac while watching episodes of Buffy on Hulu. I've already seen all of seasons one and two, which are all they have posted, but I've got a terrible memory for details when it comes to books, tv shows, and movies, so I can watch things over and over again and not get bored... and still be surprised at what happens or still experience extreme emotional reactions. Like tonight - I finished watching season two (d'oh! They don't have season three up yet...) and at the end of that season, Buffy has to kill Angel, right after his soul gets returned to him (it all makes sense when you've been watching the show...). I am sitting here sobbing like a baby watching this episode, and I've seen it before! Here's the scene (after a brief commercial):

Wicked sad, right? (By the way... Isn't Hulu cool?! You can create your own custom clips to embed on your website. I mean, you have to watch ads, but whatever, it's free for me and everyone has to make a dollar, right? Oh, and the entire episode can be watched right from that clip, just click backwards in the time elapsed thingy at the bottom... I love it!!)

Now I've got to figure something else out to watch while I wait for Season three to be posted... Hmmm... Maybe they have Angel on Hulu...

2008 is Flying by!

I can't believe that it's already the end of March. The first quarter of the year is gone already! Dodi - September is going to be here so quick!! :)

We had a really great second half of March. Last weekend was Easter Weekend and we didn't have anything big planned. In fact, we had nothing planned for that Saturday. We woke up and were being lazy, watching an episode of "Modern Marvels". It happened to be the episode on Beer and they showed the Sam Adams Brewery in Boston. I looked at Alex and said, "Let's go to Boston!" So we did. :D We hopped in the car and drove out there and ended up parking by Quincy Market (not exactly sure how we got there). We found a really old pub around the corner - The Green Dragon - and I got pretty drunk off of All Irish Black and Tans (Smithwick's and Guinness). We walked outside and saw The Freedom Trail on the sidewalk, so we followed it to Paul Revere's house. We wondered around the neighborhood and took a bunch of random pictures. We ate dinner at a seafood place in Quincy Market and then drove home. It was an awesome little unexpected day trip! :)

Easter Sunday was very low key. We went to Alex's parents' house for dinner and then just hung out with the family for a bit. Nora was being terribly cute - we took a bunch of pictures. :) We went to my parents' house after that to check in with Amy and David. We got there as they were finishing up dinner and we had a nice time chatting over coffee with Amy, David, and Julee.

This past week at work has been a really hectic one for me. I recently hired two new project manager's for my department and one of them started on Monday. I've been trying to revamp our department documentation so that I've got something of a handbook to give the new employees, but it's a lot of work and I'm probably only 1/4 of the way done. Sigh. My other new person starts tomorrow - which really means that I should go to bed now so that I can be there bright and early tomorrow!

This weekend seemed to fly by too. We went to the Enter the Haggis show at Revolution Hall - I was totally looking forward to that show all month! We met Chris and Jill and a couple of Chris's friends from Boston at Ryan's Wake, a bar right down the block from Revolution Hall beforehand. We were planning on getting a bite there, but they didn't really have any seating. We went next door to Jose Malone's instead. A Mexican Irish bar was new to us, but they poured a good black and tan and the corned beef and cabbage quesadilla was phenomenal! The Haggis show was awesome - as always. It seemed really short, but that could be because I was drunk and dancing the whole time. We went to WT's to get a drink afterwards, but left not long after we got there because Alex's drunkness was really hitting him at that point - he was no longer making sense when he talked - and I was tired. It was a great night - Haggis shows are too few and far between!

Oh, I got a new haircut a couple of weeks ago. I'm not sure what I think about it. Everyone says that they love it, but I feel like I look old. I guess I am old. Maybe I just look my age. I looked at our Honeymoon pictures again tonight and I can't believe how long my hair was before. I think I like the layers that are in my hair now... I don't have a flat head on top anymore. I guess I like it... I guess it's growing on me... ;)

(OMG I can't stand how fat, old, and tired I look in that 2nd picture! Uuuuuugh...)

Off to bed!

Shipping out to Boston

We randomly decided to drive to Boston today. Ended up in the Green
Dragon pub near Quincy Market where I am DRUNK off of a few all Irish
black and tans. Today rocks!

I'm Disgustingly Addicted

Buffy the Vampire Slayer
 blog it
It's 8pm on a Friday night. I'm not TOO old yet. But I'm sitting at home with the hubby having a quiet night in the living room. I'm such a geek because I'm TOTALLY OK with the fact that we're not going to go out and do something super cool tonight because... "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" season 2 just got added to www.hulu.com! Hulu is a pretty awesome site that allows you to stream some current and some older TV shows and some movies (though I think they're edited for TV viewing). It's add-supported, so every commercial break, you have to watch 1 commercial. I'm OK with that. A couple of weeks ago when I first discovered Hulu (when they were still in Beta), I watched the complete Buffy Season 1 and became addicted (again - I used to obsessively watch Buffy repeats on TV a couple years ago). I was super excited to discover today that they just added season 2. Oh yeah. I know what I'm doing all weekend. (By the way, Wham and Pa, check out Hulu... I'm not sure if they allow streaming outside of the US, but if so, it's another option for some good ol' American entertainment.)

Look! An Irish baby!

That was a shout from a group of drunk college kids as they passed by Beck holding Nora at the St Patrick's parade in Albany on Saturday. Beck had dressed Nora in the little green sweater we gave her for Christmas, along with a shamrock pacifier, so she looked very festive for the occasion, especially with her red hair. We didn't spend the whole parade with Beck and Kevin and Nora, but stood across the street with the rowdy crowd near the now closed Pauly's. We didn't drink much, mostly because we didn't bring any beer along and had to get by "on the kindness of strangers." We caught up with Beck, Kevin, and Nora after the parade passed us by and we were able to make it across the street. That's when we took the picture above. I love that picture - Nora looks like she's contemplating the Irish baby comment.

We went to the Pump Station after we left the parade route where we had a late lunch and listened to the Schenectady Pipe Band as they serenaded the crowd from the private party area above. That is becoming a tradition for us, after we stumbled upon that post parade performance a couple of years ago. We had a nice time. :) I was impressed with Alex's patience as he held Nora throughout the meal. Of course, he thought that it was fine to give her carrot sticks with chicken wing sauce on them, but otherwise he was a natural. :)

We went to dinner with Steve and Danielle in Saratoga much later that night and then met Amy and Leigh at the Parting Glass to see Hair of the Dog. They did a great show! They did a great version of "Sweet Caroline" that got the entire room dancing and singing along. The energy was amazing!

The rest of our weekend and our St Patrick's day today was quiet. Alex is sick - he got my nasty flu. We stayed in and cuddled on the couch all day yesterday. Today, I had to work, but Alex met me and a few of my peeps from my department for a pint over lunch. Then we went to Pinhead Susan's for dinner where we had corned beef and cabbage (which was not half as good as when I make it but we never got to the store yesterday) and some Guinness while a bagpiper and later a local band, St James Gate, played. We didn't stay too long, though, since Alex felt sickly.

So it was sort of a quiet St Patrick's day weekend for us, but still a good one. Hopefully we'll be over our illnesses in a week and a half when the real party happens - Enter the Haggis at Revolution Hall on the 29th. Can't wait!!! :)
